I've been in a Jag XJ6 that had a SBC, I've also owned a stock XJ6. This may be part of the problem. If you haven't had the pleasure of owning a nice running air cooled flat six, you could be lured to the other side of darkness.
Now, putting a Sube in a 914 doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I had visions of putting a Cadillac sidewinder in a 914. I'll say this, that would lay rubber from here to the state line.
