well a week ago or so i posted some pics of the "J" frame smith und vesson stainless. well our infinite wizdumb lead us down some interesting roads.
1st not every model 60 smith und vesson shoots .357 magnums. hmmm. how we came to this conclusion was by getting my hunting peudner over with some of his .38 loads and .357 loads. hes bean shooting .38/.357 forever and reloading them. so while feeking around getting our hunting licenses together to put in for deer,we stumbled(emphasis) upon some interesting knowledge.
we wondered why this lil "J" frame would not seat a .357 round all the way. being the engineering kind of guys we were and noting the cylinder marks internally where the bullet leaves the casing seemed to be where the .357 stopped. hmmmm we wondered could the residue be stopping the round????
chucking up a .38/.357 brush to my cordless and cleaning the snot out of the 5 cylinders w/hoppes didnt change nothing. .357 round didnt seat correct.
next i called smith und vesson gurus and spiritual advisors(straight to the horseys mouth) and found out that this particular model ONLY ACCEPTS .38 special rounds and .38+P's.
well i was bummed big time as we all know a .38 is good on bad guys, but not so good on rabid java-leaners,mtn kittys, bobby kats, black bears, teradactyls, velociraptors.
so i sulked and pouted and read every ad and magazine and smith und vesson corp propaganda that i could.
what i wanted was a model 60 1 7/8" barrel, .357/.38 no rear sight, with exposed hammer,fixed-pinned front sight stainless. and last night the spoon fairys delivered. after work made the rounds of my fave spoon shopees and found me exactly what i wanted to complete my stainless smith und vesson stainless collection.
going out this am and blast at least 100 rds on this new "J" frame with soon to be wifey blasting her browning buckmark to gain competence. after i get 200 rds thru the pipe off it goes to nelson ford(thegunsmith.com) for his SUPERSMITH job which the "N" frame .44 mag has already undergone along with dual magna porting. after nelson is done with it i will magna port the .357 and leave the baby "J" frame alone as nelson already did his supersmith job on it after we broke it in.
picked up some pachmeyer decellerator zoomy grips for it, cleaned all the packing grease off of it and lubed her up with in an inch of its life. ready to go-go right now right here.
so i present to you my collection as i single handedly kickstart the american economy by BUYING AMERICAN SPOONS AND SPOON SERVICES.
warning if ya look at the Ti frames and scandium frame smith und vessons.........be very smart about NOT USING HOT ROUNDS on them. they dont like that and can COME APART! thats why i went with stainless. plus very lil maint if it gets rainy muddy out hunting velociraptors or teradactyls.
