Where's all the usual haterz to say "oh it's just a targa"?
In all fairness this looks like a pretty decent (though not fabulous) conversion. It's reasonably clean and is far better than most of the usual abortions that come up on FeeBay regularly. Even so, it's nowhere near worth the kind of money he's asking - you can get a very nice M3 for that. Or Boxster. Or two decent SCs.
I can see the appeal. When confronted with the choice of "do I spend $15,000 rebuilding an underpowered four cylinder 912 engine just to be authentic" or to do what he did for about the same, why not? At the end of the day not all 911s (or 912s) are restoration quality. And FWIW I can appreciate what he did and the effort in it. As someone said above though I'd be concerned about frame rigidity with that much torque. And this would DEFINITELY be a car you wouldn't want to lift on in a turn - EVER.
I kinda' like it. And it's got a hell of a lot less gooey oil on the underside than most 911s/912s I've seen. Nowhere near worth that money though. If he were asking $17-$18k I'd consider it as a track toy. Probably scary wide open (but with a lot of reinforcing and a cage first).
