When I first started in the Wind River Wilderness, all I took was a tarp. It was fine for about a year until one night an electrical storm blew over us at 10,500 feet. It was a VERY long, cold wet night.
Ever since then I always take a lightweight 2 person tent with a rain fly. Can't tell you a specifc brand because it's been ages since I looked. REI will treat you right.
