Finished the hinge repair for the middle console...Some suggestions from my experience.
1.You don't need to remove the middle console.
Everything can be done 'in situ.'
If you just move the carpet that lines the back of the seats, it will free enough space for you to insert the hinge, insert the U-brackets, do the drilling, and 'gun' in the rivets that secure the hinge. I learned the hard way, spent hours trying to remove the middle console completely, and failed. In re-securing the console with torx screws I had removed, I ended up dropping the torx screw that lies just in front of the shift down a crevasse in front of the stick. I was able to retrieve it finally using a magnetic stick, and removal of the side panels and rug under the radio.
2.I just held the hinge in place with my hand, and there's no play with the hinge, there's only one way it will fit, and it won't wobble.
3.For some reason, after I gunned the rivets in, the remainder of the rivet got stuck in the gun--that may be my inexperience with a rivet gun, i don't know.
4.I panicked for a second, when i secured the hinge, and thought, oh no, how am i going to secure the compartment lid? Not a problem--that's the way it should be done. After the hinge is riveted down with lid unattached, the lid will be slid into the hinge slots in the 'open' / up position, the rod slid in through the hinge holes, and then, the lid cover will be screwed back on with torx screws.
