Am I missing something? I heard about this last year. I believe my dad already updated his plane. The old frequency had its problems and like a lot of other aviation devices and tech, is way out of date. The new system that relies on sats is supposed to me way more accurate in pinpointing a crash site.

Also, I thought that the 121.5 freq is still allocated for this, but just will not be monitored as heavily as before. As I understand it, heavies will still monitor the freq. while in the air.
