This seems pretty easy if you ask me.. If you've got the money now, buy the new unit and have a better chance of being rescued or if it's not in the cards, rely on the old system until the unit fails, then replace. We all know that aircraft ownership is not cheap, nor should shortcuts be taken at the expense of safety.
