If I ever "wreck" my baby, I will likely be dead anyhow. If I simply make a rough off field "landing", I will use my cell phone to call for a ride.
I guess I won't be springing for the new ELT until the govt mandates them with an AD.
As an IA/AP, I can appreciate the importance of stringent regulations regarding aviation (the average Joe swapping non approved used car parts into his ratty old Cessna 172 scares the bejeebus out of me)....... On the other hand, I hate helmet laws (even though I "choose" to wear one), seatbelt laws, .08 DUI laws etc, so at times I get a bit flustered when I see some new expensive Airworthiness Directives issued that sometimes look to be a kneejerk govt reaction to a very small problem.
