It would indeed. I have seen many turtles who have been hit, it's gross. This guy got lucky though. He took it like a man!
The problem is that move so slow across the road. People who are too busy on the cell phone, or something, don't notice them. And they turtles go into hide mode when they see, or hear something that big coming. So they sorta screw themselves, poor little guys.
