What I saw in the sky above the ship appeared to be one of those dollar bottle rockets going off... not the cheap ones that just POP, but the ones that have the nice bright white sparkles... I thought that it may have been a meteor, but it showed no signs of entry (tail, flight path etc..) just a black sky and "poof" a bunch of bright white sparkles with no sounds... I asked the OOD if he wanted me to log it in the ships log and he declined so I forgot about it until you brought up having your eyes to the skies... my wife told me yesterday that the local news had run a story a couple weeks ago about strange lights in the sky approximately 30 miles west of my location, so I don't know.... just weird is all...
Sounds like what space trash looks like when reentering the atmosphere... I saw a satellite come down once... didn't know it at the time and it looked pretty freaky. A lot of people saw it so it was in the papers the next morning.
