The failure in the nuclear industry most similar to the BP situation, was Chernobyl. That can't happen here. Chernobyl had no containment facility and was a carbon moderated reactor with positive thermal feedback. A very unsafe design. It even used wood for part of the structure! And while the design problems were bad, the people running it were the real problem.
