Deuller - your friends BMW has a common issue; headgasket is failing. As long as the engine did not severely overheat a gasket replacement only is safe. The problem is he will need special cam-timing tools specifically for this series engine + there is a specific process to time the cans. If he doesn't have access to both- leave it to the pros
