one word; doubtful. starting in '59 356 cars received the (much) better ZF unit. prior to that they were standard VW. earlier cars can be updated. the latest information i have is that Larry Markham in southern cal. rebuilds them. no idea where he gets the kits or individual parts. there may be others providing this service.
