It doesn't take more than a minute to remove and disconnect the entire assembly! Take it to a bench and see if the adjustment screws are stripped. If not, it should be very easy to clean up any corrosion and dirt, then use a high-quality moly grease on the 'working' portion of the adjustment threads. Upon reinstalling ... adjustment should be much easier!
