Personally have found chimney starters to be fool-proof and work perfectly every time.
The ash (sand if you're using briquettes!) collection system at the bottom of that kettle (also on the gold kettle model) is fantastic btw.

The Weber performer has been around for 20 years. That's how old mine is.
Back then, they came with a stainless steel surface.
