We have been practicing for the past week or so and tonight she finally got the jist of getting moving from a dead stop.
The smile on her face when she did it was heartwarming. The coolest part was when she said "Daddy! If my bike breaks, will you show me how to fix it?" Not "fix it for me, SHOW ME how to fix it. 
We are hoping that my son will take more interest in his bike now that his sister can ride by herself.

That's great and I do understand - been struggling to get my 2 riding, they're fine with the training wheels on but a disaster without, guess it just comes to them in the end.
