Be creative & lift her damn spirits, Jim. Blow the budget & take her to Paris for a week. I bet you that would bring a smile to her face. As long as you are willing to fly commoner class, stay in a smaller hotel in the Left Bank & avoid Michelin restaurants, you could keep it affordable - except for her shopping. Think about it.
