Simple Sushi Recipe
Had been bummed a little... didn't know what to make for dinner, was craving sushi but didn't have the seaweed wrappers or any seafood in the house to add to the mix... so I put on my thinking cap and came up with a really easy recipe that absolutely got devoured by the crew.... it goes a little something like this...
make a big pot of rice.... 60% will be for the sushi, the other 40% I chilled for fried rice....
when rice is cooking take the cheapest cuts of steak that you have and add a little sesame oil to a pan... add just a touch of salt or meat tenderizer to the steaks nothing else....
fry them until they are well done... once done, remove any bones and cut into chunks.... add them to food processor and shred the meat....
once rice is done divide it and put the fried rice rice in the freezer to chill...
the rice for the sushi, I put in a large plastic bowl and add about 1/8 cup of sugar and drizzle rice wine vinegar all over the top of the rice.... then I fold the rice on itself to mix the sugar and vinegar... I then cover the bowl and let it sit for about 10-15mins...
While the rice is sitting I finely chop up a bunch of fresh cilantro stems and all and set them aside....
once the rice has set, I add my shredded steak and my cilantro.... mix well and then start grabbing and compressing this mixture into little "bricks" and place them on a serving platter....
Once they are all made put them in the freezer to chill..
you should have already put some soy sauce in a bowl with wasabe added to chill as well...
during this time I make my fried rice... once the fried rice is done I turn off the heat and leave it covered for another 10-15mins giving the sushi a little more time to chill...
once chilled, enjoy!!! sounds weird for a sushi recipe, but let me tell you... it is easy to prepare (anyone can do it) and the taste is absolutely awesome.... (the family demanded that I make it two nights in a row)
I had made a homemade sweet & sour chili sauce prior to the rice so that it would have time to chill (my family likes it on their fried rice) I can add that recipe as well if you would like... Try it and tell me what you think....
