Pricey for now and then use @ $1K. This has paid for it self very quickly. I have had it for 5 years.
I used a Dewalt metal chop saw for a while, I have not touched it in years. they are pretty cheap. Stay a way from Harbor Freight metal working tools.

The only difference between your $1000 chinese made Jet saw and my $20 used saw (similar to the under $200 variety HF sells) is the leg/base. The rest of the components (bearings, rollers, main castings) are the same (probably made at the same chinese plant).
That said, I fully appreciate quality daily use tools (I own lots of SnapOn and Mac wrenches, sockets, ratchets etc), but there are several good buys at HF for the home DIY type who cannot justify spending $10,000 + on a decent heavy duty industrial grade band saw.
