Best Brenneke style 12ga slug seems to be a 3" Remington firing a 1 3/8oz full bore slug at 1750fps.
Old style foster rifled slugs have been totally eclipsed it seems, in both smooth and rifled barrels. I wonder why companies still make them.
Good article i found about shotgun slugs:
Shotgun Slugs
Of course i have a better chance of nailing Shakira than getting attacked by a bear, but as i learned in the boyscouts...it's nice to be prepared.

385 grains at 2,000 fps is indeed a formidable load, and very close to my handloads in the .45-70. My "hot" .45-70 load launches a 410 grain bullet at about 1850 fps. Quite honestly, that is still about 6 grains of H322 under the limit for my Marlin, but it is right at my recoil limit. It just flat hurts to shoot it with any more poop.
