Indian made goods are only a slight improvement over China and only in certain regard. Indian business is very similar to Chinese business in that maximum profit dictates decisions. Quality and customer service are things that are foreign to that part of the world. Is this the case 100% of the time? Of course not. I have seen first hand many of the better things made in India and can say that unless there is a substantial increase from that level of quality, the product will be marginal at best. A vast increase in quality still wouldn't put an India product on Dodge level for example. I think I would buy a stripped down 6.7 Dodge Ram over any Mahindra. Maybe even consider a stripper Chevy Duramax. Even if more expensive, at least you're getting something where the term "heavy duty" means something. I'd like to see a cross section of the components on the Mahindra before passing any serious judgment.
