As long as you're way out in the parking lot fringes not impinging on anyone else's ability to park I don't see the problem at all. Of course if you're way out in the fringes it may not be necessary to use two spots either. If it's a crowded lot where every spot is "in play" it's a different rule set. Either don't drive the good car there or be prepared to get door dings from some idiot.

When we take the Boxster to a mall, we park at the end and at a slight angle. We don't park across lines, but it's obvious what we are doing. To think that someone would key the car just because we don't line up in the world of lemmings makes my blood boil.
When I see a Ferrari, or any really nice car, I expect the driver to park it differently and think nothing of it. Not long ago I went to the Orange County Performing Arts Center for an event. The valets were parking some of the high end cars on the sidewalk. Fine with me.
