He was born in a sod house in 1894. His dad had come over from Denmark in 1886 and moved out west a blacksmith by trade. Winters were pretty dull and boring for a 17 year old blacksmith apprentice. So he had taken a train to shuck corn for $1 dollar a day in Lincoln. He saved for several months bought the cycle and made the trip home. If you'll notice it has pedals as most of those in that era did. I think it took him over a month to get home as there was very little fuel and only wagon trails.
