There might just be enough heat at the evap to keep it from freezing. There is also a pressure drop through most evaporators that is equivalent to 2 F degrees.
It is one of those things that a guy would need to see (and feel) to get a real sense of what is going on.
Ask the service company for the guy that will be able to figure this out. Keep in mind it will take some time to do this and at this stage of the game, I doubt that they will eat any of their time.
