Did the oval-shaped piece that goes on the side of the tranny have the word "VELLIOS" on it somewhere? If so, then it is George Vellios' 916 tranny kit.
Vellios makes a good number of 914-6 conversion parts, including this kit. He's out of Southern Cal somewhere, does a very small volume of business. His parts tend to be very expensive and very high quality.
Rumor has it (I've never driven one myself) that the shift quality on a Vellios 916 is somewhere between a tail-shifter and a side-shifter 914 tranny.
If you're interested, and have the big $$ to spend, I would give Tom a call and ask him if he can get the kit.
Remember, this is just a kit to fit the shift linkage onto a 915 tranny. You supply the tranny, have the ring and pinion flipped, deal with all the other mounting issues, the clutch, etc... We're talking pretty big bucks here.
