I've cut 3/16" steel and 1/2" aluminum plate on my table saw using an ordinary carbide tipped blade. It makes a perfect cut. Aluminum isn't bad, but watch out for those steel chips...they're hot. Didn't hurt the blade at all. It actually cuts wood cleaner after cutting the aluminum. Almost all metal-cutting machine tools use high-speed steel or carbide tooling, so it made sense to me.
