Both Krider and Choate worked from roughly 1850 to 1880. John Krider was located in Philidelphia and Choate in up state NY. Both are considered to be par excellence craftsman.
Krider also has the distinction of having made the prototype for the Le Mat revolver right before the CW. Krider also ran a big sporting goods store in Phili. A few years back the Met in NYC had an exhibition of American Percussion rifles which included a Krider rifle.
Some of you might be surprised what a Krider rifle sold for in May. I e-mailed the the Auctioneer yesterday who had bought the rifle out of his own auction.
