We write very few checks and use the Quicken billpay service, and have all bank and card activity electronically synch so the routine bills literally only take about 10 minutes every week or two.

+1 on all of the above. When I get a bill in the mail I immediately pay it using Quicken Billpay setting the payment date to be a couple of days before the due date.
