I think those two videos really sum up the difference between BB & John Lee Hooker. BB King puts on a great show... it's a polished product. He's a really a great
showman.
John Lee Hooker, not as polished, refined, or showy... but he is like the blues distilled. It just grunts and rumbles right out of him.
I can listen to BB for about an hour before I'm tapped out and feel like I'm just hearing a bunch of blues standards & cliches. OTOH, I can (and often do) listen to nothing but JLH for days on end, and always feel like I'm catching snapshops of something personal and genuine
