Um, I have to disagree with this logic. Based on what a DE instructor told me when I asked him if an experienced driver can drive a 911 better in the corners than a 944. His statement was that the 944 is better, no matter what the driver experience is.

It's quite simple: a 944 is easier to drive through corners. Don't you think an experienced driver would be able to drive a car that is easier to drive better?

The 911 beats the 944 on the track (autox and road course) due to it's higher hp: we can't catch 'em on the straights! So, on road courses like Watkins Glen, a 911 vs. 944 (driver skill being equal), the 911 would probably 'win.' On a more technical (and less open) track like Lime Rock, the hp advantage is lessened and the 944 has a better chance against the 911.

Of course, bottom line: it's all about the driver! Anyone can learn to drive any car well. Seat time! Seat time! Seat time!

Of course, you can take a 911 3.8 and wedge it into the back of a 914, and viola! Magic on the track! (Too bad you didn't include more P-cars in your list, like the 914 and Boxster)
