yep today is the day we take the springfield super duper match from hell into the next SOLAR SYSTEM of accuracy and functionality.
yeah you would think a stainless barreled super match w/mcmillian usmc f/glass stock couldnt be improved upon after waiting 14 months from their custom shop to arrive, and spending scarey bucks on it.
horsey POO!
over the years of owning this heavy azzed beast from hell, we have taken it to phil arrington(arringtonaccuracy.com). phil is from the old school(camp perry master shooter/high scorer) and he has werked on my M-1 carbine and this super duper match(trigger job) before and a number of my boss' spoons.
anyway phil waved his magic wand on mine and did a trigger job and dinked around with this and that. its all NM parts from the factory and it was fashionably dressed with a 3rd generation springfield scope mt. and 4.5 x 14 x 50mm illuminated mil dot reticle scope from springfield.
well along comes a bunch(emphasis BUNCH) of better mousey traps(thank you iraq/afghan) to see if we can make dem dar groups EVER SO TIGHTER at excruciating ranges that flat make yer sphincter pucker.
butt the bottomline to this damn thing we need to put it on a diet big time.
so here we go with the menu:
NM flashhider. already have one but mine from factory did not come with bayonet lug. scrounged one up(NM) with bayo lug. its legal to have a bayo lug now and damnit i want a bayo lug! admitted i am adding some weight cuz of that damn lug being added. screw it. nothing better on opening day of hunting and coming out of trailer looking and feeling my best with "BAYONETS FIXED" to elicit a hell of a laugh out of everyjuan. why? because i can. and when hunting elk you can NEVER have enough sharp knives to skin them. and i have a new usgi bayo diamond sharpened, which i carry in pack along with about 3 other various skinning knives. dont know about you but i dont have time to sharpen knives while skinning an elk cuz 99.9999% of the time its cold as hell and dark.
op rod spring guide from sadlak
dual allen bolt bipod mt for harris bipod from sadlak
havent figured yet either sadlak 82nd airborne alum QD mt or titanium QD scope mt and ditch springfield 3rd generation mt and save alot of weight there. plus it gives me a scope mt for SOCOM if wanted.
chrome silicone springs
install tactical oversized mag latch sadlak. wayyy nice w/gloves on.
install oversized bolt hold open latch sadlak. wayyyy nice with gloves on.
already installed TiCN coated NM piston
basically all these internal components are upgrades over and above NM specs. plus since i own a SOCOM also they will get the benefit of NM parts thrown at them from this super duper match(sick huh?).
so i dont know if we will use our same scope rings. thats a variable with either the sadlak alum/titanium scope mt. 82nd airborne alum mt IS lighter than titanium mt. but obviously TI mt stronger. dont know here yet and will follow phils teachings. if we can save weight on rings i will.
im gonna weigh this before it goes to phil and then after and see if we shaved anything. i imagine we will save weight over the 3rd generation springfield scope mt. after that we will see.
gonna go out with phil when hes finished to ben avery and sight this monster in again with federal 168gr HPBT's and see what we have gained over past groups.
what the hell its HOT here...............and its something to do.
