I think your dad may be in the minority. While the early 2nd gen (94-98) was known for being a long life, trouble free vehicle, the late 2nd gen (98.5 to 02) had the notorious VP44 issues, as well as an expensive and proprietary ECM that has known issues. I would suspect that the problem with Billy's 03 is that it is the first year of production on a new system. I spent over $2000 in 2007 for repairs to my 99, and just finished spending another $4000 last month. Unfortunately I know the truck needs another $1500 spent but it will have to wait.
