Re your oil cooler, I think you have become attached to the wrong thread.

On your cooler, there is presumably a "fin" at the top with a hole near the top of the fin and a captive nut behind the hole. This hole will line up with one in the cooling air shroud. You should have a bolt (screw), a steel washer, a rubber bung with a hole through it and a short length of steel tube.

The steel tube fits inside the bung. Put the washer on the bolt and the steel tube in the bung. Working through the fan hole, position the bung correctly and feed the bolt in from outside the shroud, through the steel tube in the bung and screw it into the captive nut. The steel tube is just to stop you over-compressing the bung.
