I just opened a gmail account as an alternate account and just went through the same sort of troubles with hotmail. Someone/something hijacked my contact list on my hotmail account a couple of months ago and started sending stuff out to those on the list. I was told it was Viagra advertisements by some people and weird political stuff by other people. I reported it to the abuse website for hotmail, and before I knew it they cancelled my account. Went to customer service and had the same troubles you are having. I finally filled out a claim that my account had been closed unjustly. Got a contact back asking me all kinds of questions to prove I was the owner of the account. After a few days, it was mysteriously opened up again without any feedback from them. Good luck.
