I bought a pair of new 996 horns for about $80. Same hi/lo harmonics as the SC horns, sound pleasant and polite on a quick tap - get penetrating pretty fast. Fraction of the weight of the trumpets.
Made up an small 4-wire adapter harness for the fancy new weatherproof terminals to adapt to the spades on the factory harness, bolted them in around the wheel in about 15 minutes. Pointed them down and forward so they're out of any spray from the wheel.
It's been 3 years/20,000 miles now and they still work great - yes, I drive in the rain.
You could put pretty much anything on - even Ford or GM horns - but why would you want to do that?
