Personally I would not bother with a compression test. A leak down test will tell you enough to determine engine health. 3% is a very nice engine. 10% is getting close to rebuild time. I have driven cars with as much as 12% leakage that drove fine. My daily driver has 8-10% and runs fine. Consistancy across the cylinders is important.
