After reading Pete Z's advice on using Kendall oil, I've changed the gearbox oil in my 36,000 mile 1982 SC to Kendall Special LSD Axle Gear Lube 80W-90 (Part No 527-7737), which has has made a definite improvement to the way it shifts, especially from 1st to 2nd.
My concern is that I may have made the wrong choice as my car is NOT LSD, and the recommended Kendall NS-MP is not available anywhere here in New Zealand.
I've also found a place where I can buy BP 20-50, so hopefully I've got my oil issues under control.
