First off I want to say that my EBay experience has been very good.
So far I haven't had any issues. Everything I've bought has turned up.
I've only bought about 30 things in total... Mainly vintage tools, camera gear and Campy bike parts.

The way I look at it is...

If I buy and pay for something then I have to be prepared to kiss the money good bye.
It's a bit like lending money to a family or friend. You have to be prepared never to see that money again.
If the item turns up, that's a bonus and always a relief.

I've never tried to sell anything on E Bay but I dread the thought.
All of those fees and BS? No thanks.
