One quick check I often do is run the car on one distributer then the other. Unplug one coil wire then the other. I do this to tell if the dist drive belt is still OK. In your case if the engine runs OK on one but misses on the other then you likely have a plug wire not seated . It will also isolate the top plugs from the bottom and help you narrow down where to look.
