I did try both distributors separately and they both ran ok. Seems that, unless under load, I couldn't distinguish which way it ran better and, I believe that you can't run on just one distributor. I also tried using one of these spark wire inductor gadgets (they light up when you place them on the plug wire), but the wires were too close for me to distinguish which wire wasn't working. Maybe its somewhat intermittent, but it sure runs like you know what when under load.
