I just completed the onerous project of removing my SSI heat exchangers from my '79 3.0. Even with the engine out of the car that was about the most difficult bolt removal project I have ever tackled. Part of the problem was that the PO did not use 8mm barrel nuts, so the access ports were of little value.
Anyhow, after removing the exchangers I decided to take off the air injector system and install plugs which went pretty well except for the cylinder directly above the large oil pipe fitting.
I have some PEL-BRC-02 air injection plugs (NICE!) and the last plug on the entire project decided to strip the aluminum threads on the head.
SO. my question is:
Is there any recommended fix for repairing the threads, or using an over-sized plug to remedy this problem. Keep in mind this is the only plug that is somewhat covered by the oil cross-over tube which makes it difficult to get good access. (I think the pipe might need to come off. Hmm, what size IS that large nut?)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
