BTDT... I'm a little disappointed in mine, to be honest. Then again I was also dissapointed in the 993 I briefly owned (too "soft"), so what do I know....

Lovely car, looks great, handles great... Few things I dislike about the Cayman S:

- The mid engine is louder than in the boxster, maybe reverb from the roof, and I'm not talking "good loud". I mean parasitic noises, belts noises, who knows... Ironically the exhaust is too quiet. It therefore does not feel as refined as a 996/997 from an NVH standpoint.

- The car lacks power bad. Yes, all journalists have mentioned that, but how bad can 295 hp be, right ? Well, those 295 hp (mine is an 06) are the *laziest* 300 horses I ever experienced. Until I used an aftermarket solution to wake up the E-gas pedal, it felt like the handbrake was accidentally left on. It's better now, but, mehh... my ex-320hp 996 felt tons stronger despite being heavier.

- The traction is nowhere near as good as that of a proper 911. I know, mid engine, great turn in, yada yada, and I loved my old boxster so I figured the 987 had the 997 licked on handling... But at the end of the day, I *like* having weight on the rear tires after all, and shoot out of corners. This one (987CS) comes in hotter, rotates better, drifts nicely, but it lacks the grip and HP to come out of a turn like I enjoyed doing in the 996....

- Last but not least: that thing is nowhere near track friendly out of the box, unless you're taking a leisurely stroll in the beginner's group. The power steering pump will overheat and blow up, the engine will experience Vapor oil separator failure issues, and oil starvation on sustained left turns on anything but street tires. $hit, my stock 83 911 is more track capable out of the box, slower, I know, but damn... Dissapointing...

But it's a lovely car ! I'm having the same relationship with this car that I had with my 993, I get more enjoyment from looking at it than actually driving it (Ok, that's an exageration in both cases, but I mean I wish I enjoyed driving it more.. it's a very capable fun car still)

Not dissing the cayman, I wanted one bad, now that I have one I'm not so sure. Hope this helps you be more patient ;-) Maybe the 09 and above with DFI and more power are substantially better, dunno !
