+1 Allopurinol. My Doc has me on 300mg twice a day.
For a flare up, my doc says take as much Colchicine as you want until the pain goes away...but don't get too far from the bathroom. He's right.
I tried and will continue with diet, but the flare ups still come every-so-often.
I suppose I could affliced with something worse.
