Hey riber.bentsen, From the owners description and at least 10 years of sitting with an open top, this cabrio sounds like it would be quite the project. Offer free towing as a starting point. I'd perform a very thorough inspection of the body and jack the car at each corner (one at a time) to look for any stress cracks along the door sills and inner wall joints before getting too involved. Then try to track down some ownership history and who did the convertible conversion. With enough time and money it could be a very unique car if everything checks out and you can get it at the right price. Like it has been said several times previously - many of us have invested $10,000 to be driving a fine $5,000 928.
For a fun knock around project I’d make an offer for the VW bug sitting beside the fence. Even with a (crazy) down market - a restored super beetle sold for $6,250 on eBay a while back. Somewhere around 1979, just as the old air cooled beetles were being phased out, VW had a fire sale on bugs in Montana and a buddy bought a super beetle off the showroom floor and out the door for $1,900.
