What one is it?

I've only done 901's (and a bunch of bugs) and they are not too bad. If you have two cores I can often make one out of the two. Stack service labour isn't that bad and is often all it needs, but if I have to set the R&P it doubles the labour cost. First gear slider is expensive but I have a couple of good used ones. Bearings, sliders, dog teeth and brake bands are what usually goes and if you have to buy them all new it will get expensive.
I have a rebuilt 914-901 in stock.

I've never done a 915 but I hear it's just a larger version of the 901 and you can use the dog teeth out of a 944 (or is it 924?). But I've also heard that often the case is trashed. I have no parts at all.

Andrew is right, it's imposable to do a quote till you tear it down. If you were asking JW for a nailed down price before you shipped that could be part of the problem.
I don't want to do a later trans.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.
