I still think that a lap belt should fit snugly ...and somewhat tightly on your hip-pivot joint for safety. A bit of air-space stand-off should not be considered OK. You say it's OK for keeping you "in place during an accident". I'm sure you didn't test this theory and hope you never have to.

What keeps you snug for spirited driving and what's necessary for crash protection ( up to maybe 45 g's) ....is a completely different set of spec requirements. We used to have this kind of discussion on track forums where guys were using 5 point belts for DE's with stock seats....and the sub belt looped forward and back around the seat cushion front-edge ( instead of using a sub-belt "hole" in the seat)...and there too the argument was presented that all would be OK in accident. 'Fraid not, at least not in that case.....
