In "the day"....these were pretty goofy cars. In 1988, they essentially took a "stock" Carrera, took out some standard features, reprogrammed the computer for a slightly higher rev limit, used hollow-stem exhaust valves...and saved maybe 150 lbs of weight at the expense of lots of loss of convenience. I mean c'mon.....removing the coat hook ?.....the glove box door? No A/C? Car and Driver did a test comparing a CS with a stock Corvette at the time, and the Corvette, A/C and power windows and all....simply walked over this car.
Porsche was trying to emulate the really cool RS and RSR of the 70's...and tried this in 88 and 89. Oh yeah....for stripping the car.....you got the privelege (then) of paying $10k more....IIRC. I think later reports indicated something like 20 being imported into USA. Don't know if this was "per year" or total over 2 years.
