That's what's SUPPOSED to happen anyway...
It's interesting. When one group of people goes door-to-door (or business-to-business) and demands that the residents pay them for "protection", it's called "law enforcement". When another group does the exact same thing it's called "mob extortion".
Just an interesting observation. Not saying all bona fide cops are bad or that all bona fide mobsters are good, but generally speaking, I'd feel a lot better "protected" by the mafia than by the police departments these days... Too many of them seem far more concerned with protecting their own interests, budgets, cushy retirement programs and benefits, etc. than they do about protecting the people who pay for that service. Not all, some. And the problem isn't necessarily with the uniformed guy, it's with management/administration/command.
