The key isn't the design, it's in the mettalurgy and internal coatings. Uncoated heat treated 400 series stainless might only last a matter of weeks.
the best HVOF coating for this service known to man is called SUME.
AFAIK the only two places that can do it are in West Virginia and England, owned by Sulzer (invented the turbocharger over 100 years ago).
Oil sands is an example of a service where pumps get eaten up quickly. $$$$$$$
