Since it is in a '73, no you are not nuts.
The headers aren't going to help much on a stock SC engine. If you put in the S cams, then it'd be worth it though.
And while on the S cam subject, don't forget that you'll have to replace the stock SC CIS pistons to get enough valve clearance for those early S cams.
So, unless you plan on getting serious, don't do it one piece at a time. It all has to work together.
